Pride to bag Redcar gold

June 2022

The in-form Pride Of America is backed to bask in some Bank Holiday glory by following up his recent Chester success in Redcar's Racing TV Zetland Gold Cup.

Amy Murphy's five-year-old has won two of his three outings this term, with his only defeat coming at the hands of the hat-trick-seeking Baryshnikov, who is once again in opposition.

However, Pride Of America could not be in any better form ahead of this venture north and showed his quality when making every yard during a wide-margin success at Chester's May meeting.

Although hit with 9lb hike for that victory, it cannot be forgotten that this was a horse once deemed good enough to run in the Lingfield Derby Trial and therefore a mark of 92 could be well within his range as he arrives at Redcar in peak condition for this ultra-competitive handicap.

Mascapone can open his account on his first start for David Simcock in Chelmsford's CCR Restricted Maiden Stakes.

The Massaat colt was a creditable fourth when starting out for Adrian Nicholls in the Brocklesby at Doncaster and that race has a strong look to it this season. Thee winner Persian Force is joint-favourite for the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and the runner-up Primrose Ridge was subsequently snapped up by Amo Racing and has also been on the scoresheet since.

Up at Hamilton, the hat-trick seeking Savvy Knight could make a successful switch to the handicap ranks off a mark of 85 in the Follow Us On Twitter @hamiltonparkrc Handicap, while Asjad's recent York success gives Air Raid's Redcar third a strong look and the course-and-distance winner could be the answer to the Hampton By Hilton Hamilton Park Clyde Handicap.

Convection looks to have a great chance of adding a second victory to her CV in the Leicester Hospitals Charity Fillies' Handicap at Leicester.

Ralph Beckett's filly ended 2021 by getting on the scoresheet at Kempton, but has bumped into some well-handicapped opposition off her new figure of 72 in both outings so far this term.

At Nottingham on reappearance she was third to the extremely well-treated Gatecrasher Girl and Ed Bethell's Reel Rosie and it was only the latter of that pair that finished in front of her when second at Newmarket last time.

Although the consistent three-year-old could be vulnerable to an improver, she sets the standard on form and could have been found the perfect opportunity by her team here.

Simply Sondheim can continue George Boughey's fine start the 2022 season by following up his recent Hamilton success under a 6lb penalty in the Heartwize Handicap.

The three-year-old won with a bit in hand when making his handicap bow last week and connections appear keen to strike while the iron is hot, with the son of Pivotal supposed to have run at Lingfield on Monday before that race was abandoned.

Elsewhere at Leicester, Roach Power looks to have been laid out to win the King Power Queen's Platinum Jubilee Handicap.

The King Power Racing-owned three-year-old was a runner-up on his seasonal return at Ripon, but that pipe-opener should put him spot on for this and he enters the handicap ranks off an eye-catching mark of 79.

Coase could be the answer to the concluding Filbert Fox Handicap. Michael Wigham's consistent operator landed a competitive handicap at Newmarket in April and, having been given a short rest following that game performance, could strike again off only a 2lb higher mark. - Press Association
