Pinch Hit looks a six all the way

May 2022

Trainer Fanie Bronkhorst (pictured) looks to add to his tally of 14 winners for the season today at the Vaal and he could well provide bettors with a Pick 6 banker.
Of his nine runners, Pinch Hit looks most likely to see the inside of the winner’s enclosure. This William Longsword gelding lines up in Race 3, a Maiden Plate over 1000m.
He made a very pleasing debut over the same distance at Turffontein recently, and despite coughing finished a 1.4-length runner-up to Taikonaut in a small field of seven.
With that experience in the bank, he should go one better in a field where few of the other ten runners make any appeal.
Quoted at 8-10 yesterday by World Sports Betting, it seems they expect the money to flow on Pinch Hit.
Second on the bookmaker’s board at 5-2 is unraced River Pirate from Mike and Adam Azzie’s yard, with the remainder of the field at 8-1 or better.
Should River Pirate, or one of the other three newcomers surprise, Pinch Hit will still take bettors through the Pick 6 if he is the first of the raced runners across the line.
Craig Zackey, who steered Pinch Hit on his debut, retains the ride.
The Azzies also saddle a potential Pick 6 banker in Race 6, with Manz Knight contesting the Maiden Plate over 2000m.
This Gimmethegreenlight colt made his debut two weeks ago over 1700m with S’manga Khumalo in the saddle, running second to My True North.
He didn’t have the best of jumps and had to work hard to get into a handy position, but then ran out of steam. That experience should stand him in good stead with Khumalo again in the irons.
The Sean Tarry-trained Satoshi looks the main danger judged on his last outing, his first after a rest and gelding. He finished just 0.75-lengths behind Manz Knight, so could reverse the result with improved fitness.
The contest between these two could be one of the highlights on the eight-race card.
Rishaan’s Boy and Flag Bearer, both trained by Bronkhorst, look most likely to complete the quartet.
