Pietro can sprint to Brighton success

August 2025

Pietro is the pick in the feature Brighton Sprint Series Final Handicap at the seaside track.

Trained by James Fanshawe, the three-year-old is proving a consistent sort - and one suited to undulating courses.

While he only has two wins so far from 12 career starts, his record is littered with placed efforts and crucially he has form here, winning on his penultimate start.

That was a tidy effort, boosted since, and Pietro is back having given a good account to be second at York following that.

Further evidence of his liking for unconventional circuits comes with his two outings at Epsom, which have yielded a first and second.

Blenheim Star is another who fits the 'horses for courses' tag and she should be on the premises in the It Takes A Village Handicap.

William Knight's charge ran a perfectly respectable race when third here earlier in the month and is on the same mark as when successful in April.

Jim Boyle has his string in fine form at the moment and can strike gold with Marlay Park in the Supported Loggings Handicap.

It is almost two years since the Cable Bay gelding has got his head in front, but recent efforts suggest his winning turn might not be far away.

The four-time Epsom scorer was second on his first visit to Brighton a couple of starts back and running off the same mark of 71, he looks sure to make his presence felt again.

Siouxfonic is rated the best bet at Worcester as he makes his stable debut for James Owen in the Neu-Servo Neigh Bad Repairs Open National Hunt Flat Race.

The four-year-old finished second in a Tipperary bumper last month for Tom Cooper and the form looks sound, with the winner Ebony King subsequently following up over hurdles at the Galway Festival.

Champion jockey Sean Bowen has been booked for Siouxfonic's British bow and while the presence of Market Rasen winner Axel Bleue makes this an interesting heat, Owen's charge is in receipt of 10lb, which is expected to tip the balance in his favour.

It will be interesting to see how Penzance fares on his first start over obstacles in division one of the Neu-Servo Stable Service Maiden Hurdle.

Five victories saw the five-year-old achieve a three-figure rating on the Flat for Mick Appleby and The Horse Watchers, who sold him for 50,000 guineas last month.

He is now with Shark Hanlon and while a couple of starts in the Racing League were uninspiring, he looks to have been found a good opportunity to make a successful switch to the jumping game.

In Ireland, Tipperary hosts a classy card featuring the Coolmore Stud No Nay Never Fairy Bridge Stakes, in which Copacabana Sands can make it back-to-back Group Three wins for Michael O'Callaghan. - Press Association
