Peter to be On Target at Turffontein

The scratching of chief rival One More Star has opened the door for On Target to win Race 6 at Turffontein on Thursday, a MR 86 Handicap over 1800m on the Inside track, and notch up his third career win.

On Target is a son of top sire but ill-fated Lancaster Bomber, who, like One World, has had a record-breaking season which is just over halfway through. Recently his Western Cape-based son Eight On Eighteen landed the 2025 Grade 1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met, and the Cape Derby so his untimely passing is proving to be a huge loss to South Africa’s high-quality breeding ranks.

Trainer Tony Peter holds On Target in very high regard. The bay gelding has won two of his six starts, is getting better with each run especially over ground, and looks to have much more to come.

To boost his chances, he has been given the best of the draws, most invaluable on the Inside track which is notoriously difficult from a wide berth.

He will also have all the required assistance from the saddle as Gavin Lerena in the irons.
