Peter hopeful of promising runs from Greyville runners

May 2021

PAUL PETER

Jack Milner: Trainer Paul Peter is back at Greyville on Wednesday with four runners, all of whom will be racing on the Polytrack for the first time.

Promise Of Hope in Race 1 heads the quartet with the other runners being Frontline Fighter in Race 2, Wine Tasting in Race 3 and Baymax in Race 6.

The word from the stable is that all the horses are fit and well, but the best of the four could be Promise Of Hope, who runs in a Maiden Juvenile Plate for fillies over 1000m.

What A Winter’s progeny have been winning all over the place of late and Promise Of Hope is that typical strong, speedy type who has shown a lot of pace in her two races. On debut she finished a 3.05-length third behind Gin And Tonic and followed that up with a 3.25-length second behind Eternity Ring.

Eternity Ring came out to win again at the Vaal yesterday in which she beat Freed From Desire by a long head. The runner-up is trained by Peter so that will give the yard even more faith in Promise Of Hope.

“She’s a massive runner,” said Peter on Tuesday. “She is looking good and I think she will enjoy the poly.”

Frontline Fighter runs in a Maiden Plate over 1000m. He has only raced once where he showed good pace but suffered a wound in running and did not go on. He ended up in fourth place behind Team Gold and can only improve.

“He’s probably in the toughest field of the four runners,” added Peter. “But for once all the horses have got goods draws and if he takes to the Polytrack he should be right there.”

Wine Tasting contests a FM 84 Handicap over 1200m and she has raced against a lot better. Her form includes a second place behind Malmoos over 1450m. She has excellent gate speed and will benefit from No 1 draw.

“I’ve always thought Wine Tasting will enjoy Greyville,” said Peter. “She was supposed to run at the course previously, but the race was cancelled.

“She’s a small filly, but her form is very decent and I think she will enjoy the poly.”

Baymax could be Peter’s next best runner. He looks to be running in an ordinary field in Race 6, a MR 77 Handicap over 2000m, and he does have feature race runs in his form line, including a 0.10-length second in the listed Derby Trial over 2000m at Turffontein.

“I don’t know what to expect from Baymax because he’s naughty and tends to be full of himself. If he takes to the Polytrack and handles the travelling, based on his Derby Trial run behind Pamushana’s Pride, he can put them to bed,” said Peter.

Warren Kennedy will be aboard Wine Tasting while Luke Ferraris will be riding the other three.

Peter confirmed on Wednesday that his horses had all arrived safe and sound in Durban. “They all ate up on Tuesday night and they are all looking well so I’m feeling pretty confident, especially about Promise Of Hope.”
