Ocean Palace to score on Polytrack

Trainer Weiho Marwing and jockey Gavin Lerena team up with three runners on the Polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday and they look likely to get Pick 6 punters off to a winning start.

There is an eight-race card on offer, so the Pick 6 kicks off in Race 3 with a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1400m. Marwing sends out Ocean Palace who has only had one race and that was over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on 23 August.

The daughter of Potala Palace was firm at 10-1 in the betting on that occasion and ended up closer to the back of the field following a slow start. But despite racing greenly, Ocean Palace found her stride in the straight and ran on strongly to produce the fastest time over the final 400m to finish third, just 2.10 lengths behind Dame Mazona.

Scottsville is not an easy track on which to make a debut so that was a really decent effort. This time she has the benefit of No 1 draw and if she can avoid a tardy start, will prove hard to beat.

Lerena was aboard the filly last time, so he now knows what to expect, and as Marwing has a good feel for which of his runners will take to the surface, the Polytrack looks unlikely to catch her out.

This is not the strongest of fields, but the main threat is likely to come from Wayne Badenhorst-trained Vermacilli. While this daughter of Ideal World has already raced 12 times, she did finish ahead of Dame Mazona in the race won by Baby On Board.

She also has the advantage of having 4kg claiming apprentice Trent Mayhew in the irons, but she is drawn No 7 and Ocean Palace is expected to make massive improvement.
