Muzi and Mitchley to strike at Fairview

August 2023

Jack Milner

Muzi Yeni’s good run looks set to continue at Fairview on Monday when they race on the Polytrack.

At the time of writing, Yeni had already ridden 24 winners this season and was 11 clear of bookmakers’ hot favourite Richard Fourie.

While Fourie and S’manga Khumalo get the plum rides for the top two trainers in the Eastern cape, Alan Greeff and Gavin Smith respectively, Yeni has struck up a successful relationship with Kelly Mitchley who currently has her yard in top form.

Last Friday at this course Mitchley came away with two wins (both with Yeni up), three seconds and a third with only Sharon Kotzen going better with three victories.

Yeni and Mitchley can get bettors off to a profitable start at the course when they team up with Pembroke in Race 1, a Maiden Plate over 1400m.

This four-year-old gelding had his first run for the stable on 4 August with Yeni on his back and he ran a promising third, beaten 1.25 lengths by Gimme A Diamond.

Nothing much went right for the Master Of My Fate gelding as he was reported to be nervous, lost ground at the start and was bumped, so that was a decent enough effort.

Despite all that he actually got to the front and was only caught late. He also ran in blinkers for the first time.

The form of that race was franked in Race 3 at this course last Friday when fourth-placed The Charioteer came out to win.

Pembroke goes 1400m this time and with the experience of his last effort, his first on the Polytrack, he should be too good against a somewhat moderate bunch of rivals.

Yeni has the advantage this time of jumping from No 1 draw and that should give him the run of the race.
