More than a Passing Thought at Hamilton

September 2025

Passing Thought was just beaten on the line at Goodwood recently and compensation awaits in the PMA Recruitment Services And WE Contracts EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes at Hamilton on Monday.

She built on her initial seventh to be beaten just a head, pushing the winner all the way to the line and she would not need to improve too much to be winning here.

Paul Mulrennan has a good record teaming up with Ed Walker when the trainer sends one north.

There are a couple of interesting big field maidens at Leicester that should be worth watching with the future in mind.

This season the first place to start when looking at juvenile races has been Karl Burke and he lets another likely type off the leash in the Leicester Racecourse Maiden Fillies' Stakes in Emilia Casanova.

A homebred by Dubawi out of a Lowther Stakes winner in Living In The Past, she is unlikely to be found wanting for fitness.

Just as well bred is Palace Artois, another homebred by Palace Pier out of Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Intricately but her trainer William Haggas tends to bring his two-year-olds along gradually.

In the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes Burke's Moving Shadow is another likely type, however, John and Thady Gosden run Go Rimbaud, another by Palace Pier who is out of a sister to a Group One winner and she is likely to know her job.

Participle should be given one last chance in the British EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes despite a bit of a lacklustre campaign so far.

Ralph Beckett's charge was only just beaten by Qilin Queen as a juvenile and given that one has won at Group Two level in France, plenty would have been expected of this filly.

Added to that the daughter of Frankel has a classic Juddmonte pedigree, so it must be a bit frustrating to have seen her run no sort of race on her seasonal bow before twice hitting the frame.

The most recent drop back to 1600m at Ffos Las certainly did not help her cause so a return to 2000m and hopefully some quicker ground should be pluses.

At Wolverhampton, Pergola can add a second win to her CV in the Tips For Every Race At raceday-ready.com Handicap.

Successful at Epsom in July, she tried to dictate matters last time out but got run out of victory in the dying strides, with this 2400m trip looking a fair test for her. - Press Association
