MOMENT OF INSPIRATION AT KEMPTON

August 2025

By Nick Robson, PA

It will take a good one to beat Moment Of Light in the Unibet/British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes at Kempton on Wednesday.

James Owen's youngster made a hugely encouraging debut at Chester recently when beaten only by an Andrew Balding-trained newcomer, looking a surefire future winner.

That was over seven and a half furlongs, on quick ground on a tight, turning track so you would imagine the step up to a mile on the all-weather with a long straight will suit this son of Sea The Moon.

Owen's dual-purpose string remain in great form and this 78,000 guineas breeze-up purchase holds an entry in the Royal Lodge so he will have to be winning this if he is to take that up.

Jack Channon's Sarab Star is very interesting back down in grade in the second division of the Unibet Supporting Safer Gambling Novice Stakes.

The Zoustar colt made a winning debut at Salisbury this time last year and then went to Newbury for the Group Two Mill Reef.

Unfortunately that meeting was hit by a deluge of rain and the ground turned heavy, with Sarab Star finding it all too much and trailing in last of the six runners.

It is far too early to be giving up on him and he must have had a problem to not reappear before now. The early promise makes him of interest.

The Lost Sock has made steady progress in his two runs to date and looks a safe proposition in the Yorkshire Dales Distillery EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes at Catterick.

Trained by Roger Varian, he was a fair third on his debut at Nottingham when understandably showing signs of greenness and then he was just touched off last time out at Thirsk.

The winner finished mid-division in the big sales race at York last week, while the third, Boston Dan, was second.

That suggests the Thirsk race was a decent event, so The Lost Sock sets a good standard.

Rogue Attraction was sent off favourite to beat the useful Daydreama on her first run which shows what connections think of her.

She just came up short but clearly has plenty of ability and should go one better in the Fascination By Cherished Maiden Fillies' Stakes. She holds a Rockfel entry.

Paul Mulrennan surely could have ridden Jim Goldie's Trojan Sun in the Portobello Cup Handicap so the fact he instead rides Lunar Power for Donald McCain should be a tip in itself at Musselburgh.
