Mjoka, Fourie have that winning feeling

January 2025

Durban-born jockey Mpumelelo Mjoka doesn’t get too many opportunities but he some decnt rides at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.

The most promising of these looks to be Electric Feels in Race 5 over 1200m.

Mjoka has ridden Michelle Rix-trained William Longsword mare six times and has not missed the money, winning once and finishing second three times. Two of those runner-up finishes have come in consecutive recent starts at this course, over 1100m behind Rougarouin and in her latest outing, over 1000m behind King Viserys.

On both occasions, Electric Feels finished ahead of re-opposing rivals Gravity and Tambourine Man with whom she renews rivalry.

Electric Feels wouldn't be winning out of turn and she is good value to be rewarded for her consistency, especially as she is weighted to confirm her superiority over those familiar foes.

Unbeaten in two starts with blinkers fitted, Adam Marcus-trained Kelp Forest is another enticing betting proposition and good value to complete a hat-trick of wins in Race 6 under Richard Fourie.

This Flower Alley gelding has been impressive in winning back-to-back outings with the blinkers on and a further five-point penalty for his latest 1200m victory is unlikely to halt his momentum over the shorter 1000m trip - the same course and distance over which he scored two starts back.
