Miller has a Fine One at Scottsville

December 2023

While it is a bit unfair to label Mike Miller as a trainer who specialises in two-year-old horses as he has had fair success with his older strings, he has, however, had excellent results with his juveniles.

With no less than nine runners, he will be hoping to bag the lion’s share of prizes in the first two races at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.

Fine One (Race 1) and Just Reckless (Race 2), both ridden by first-choice, rider Tristan Godden look to have outstanding chances in their respective heats and can form the basis of All-To-Come bets on the day.

Fine One was the subject of solid betting support on debut but allowed one to get by in Ibhele (who had the benefit of two gallops at Scottsville) after showing inexperience. He is a son of new sire One World who has already a smashing start to his career at stud with two winners on Cape Guineas Day last weekend. The colt is head and shoulders above the raced runners and should be hard to beat.

Godden has jumped off Ethereal View to ride Just Reckless. The former was obviously the quicker back home as she took on the role of favourite for a while when the pair made their debuts three weeks back.

She did outpace most in that race but then came up for air and that is when Just Reckless, with Calvin Habib up, changed gears and went by Ethereal View but couldn’t get to Discerning who was ultra-quick.

Godden, obviously, is on the best of Miller’s five in Race 2 and will feel even more confident as Just Reckless, who is looking for more distance, gets a further 100m to get into stride. Both are races are Maiden Juvenile Plates over 900m and as there are first-timers in the hunt, it will pay to follow the betting market closely before taking any action.
