McMurray looks mint for Yarmouth backers

October 2025

McMurray must have sound claims of bringing up his hat-trick in the Join Moulton Racing Club Nursery Handicap at Yarmouth on Monday.

George Boughey's son of Mehmas shaped nicely behind Clive Cox's classy A Bit Of Spirit in two novice events and showed the benefit of those runs when opening his account at the third attempt at Ffos Las over 1500m.

Upped to 1600m for his handicap debut at Doncaster, he won off a mark of 83, beating the useful Crest Of Fire by a neck.

He has 4lb more to carry this time but is still very much improving.

William Haggas' Digub has a long absence to overcome in the bettingsites.co.uk New Betting Sites Fillies' Novice Stakes but she nevertheless looks an interesting runner.

On her sole start last season she ran on nicely into fourth in a Newmarket maiden which was won by Ralph Beckett's Saqqara Sands.

The latter is now a Group Three winner and came close to winning the Celebration Mile, so the form is strong. The obvious worry is that was last September and we have not seen her since.

Lopeo looked a fair sort when winning last time out and can defy a penalty in the British EBF Novice Stakes at Pontefract.

Trained by David Menuisier, the grey son of Lope De Vega had finished fourth on his debut at Chester when finding the track a bit too tight.

Sent to Goodwood early last month, he looked much more streetwise and relished the heavy ground, running out an impressive winner.

The second has now been placed on all three starts, giving the form some substance, so Lopeo could be pretty decent.

Kevin Ryan's Irish Nectar has dropped to a dangerous looking mark in the Leslie Burton (Fisher) Handicap.

The four-year-old won at the end of last season at York off a rating of 80 and was second first time out this year off 83.

Running on ground probably quicker than ideal in the summer, the handicapper has been very slow to relent, but down to 78 he was sixth of 25 in the Bronze Cup at Ayr, suggesting he could be about to hit form.

This is a competitive race but he is well drawn, enjoys cut in the ground and has been dropped another 1lb.

At Wolverhampton, the Charlie Hills-trained Khafar can get off the mark at the third attempt in the At The Races App Market Movers EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes.

The daughter of Dubawi made a fine start to her career when second on debut at Newbury to the classy looking Imperial Ballet.

Sent off favourite next time at Kempton she did herself no favours by trying to anticipate the start which lit her up, meaning she ran keen and at the business end she had nothing left in the tank.

Hills has found her a good opening here and she could outclass her rivals. - Press Association
