Malmoos Guineas favourite

December 2020

Malmoos will lay his unbeaten record on the line when he runs in Saturday’s Grade 1 Cape Guineas over 1600m at Kenilworth.

Mike de Kock’s charge has been priced up at 19-10 to notch up his fifth successive victory. the son of Captain Al showed his wellbeing with a confident victory in the Grade 2 Concorde Cup over 1600m on the Winter Course, his first outing on a left-handed track.

He beat Linebacker by 0.50 lengths but that run would have brought him on significantly. Luke Ferraris takes the ride.

However, he will not be short of challengers, especially from the Vaughan Marshall yard.

Marshall sends out five runners, headed up by Grade 3 Cape Classic champion and runaway Ready To Run Stakes (Non-Black Type) winner Seeking The Stars, who is the best handicapped runner by 1.5kg.

The son of Vercingetorix is unbeaten since fitted with blinkers and although he has yet to race beyond 1400m, Seeking The Stars has shown no signs of stopping in his races.

Seeking The Stars will be ridden once again by Louis Mxothwa and has been priced up 5-2 second favourite.

Marshall also has re-opposing Linebacker, Rascallion (third in the Concorde Cup and 15-2 third favourite) , Look For Hounds and Contact Zone

Dennis Drier saddles Tempting Fate, already a Grade 1 winner, but has yet to prove he goes 1600m. He won the Gold Medallion at Scottsville but his debut run in the Cape was most disappointing.

Also run on the day will be the Grade 2 Peninsula Handicap over 1800m and the Grade 3 Victress Stakes for fillies and mares, also over 1800m.
