LUNA HALO IS BACK

January 2024

Henk Steenkamp

The East Cape champion two-year-old filly of last season, Luna Halo, is back at Fairview on Friday and looks set to return to her winning ways. Now a three-year-old, Luna Halo is the favourite to win the R150 000 Listed Lady’s Bracelet for fillies and mares over 1600m for the Alan Greeff stable. The trainer makes her a “big runner”. The Lady’s Bracelet is the feature event for the meeting planned for the Turf track. It is race seven on the card and will jump at 16:15.

Please keep an eye on announcements about a possible change of surface to the Poly after we had rain at Fairview during the week.

After two good efforts at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth against classy opposition, Luna Halo, will be hard to beat at her favourite course where she is unbeaten from three starts. Richard Fourie is back to take the ride and Luna Halo has never missed the winners box with Fourie up. Luna Halo is drawn well and if there is a change to the Poly, it will be no problem for her. It could be a problem for one of her biggest dangers, the Cape Town raider Gold Poker Game from the Candice Bass-Robinson stable. She has solid Western Cape form, the distance will suit and the stable gives her a winning chance. Gareth Wright is up and if Gold Poker Game travelled well from Cape Town, she will be very competitive.

A move to the Poly will be a huge setback for Gold Poker Game as this is an unknown surface for her. Last year’s winner And We Danced (Sharon Kotzen Racing) is a factor again. She was unlucky in her last start when Definitely Maybe beat her but should turn that around this time. Kotzen expects a “big run”.

The meeting starts at 12:45 and the first race is the first leg of the Bipot. If we stay on the Turf the Cape Town raider Imhotep (Bass-Robinson) is a huge runner but Wolfram (Tara Laing) and Military Man (Kelly Mitchley) will be in the mix.

Will Bridgerton finally get it right for the Gavin Smith stable in the second race, the first leg of the Place Accumulator?

He is the standout in a weak field. The race is at 13:20.

Ubisika (Smith) and Gunsmoke (Laing) are the main contenders in race three, the first leg of the Pick Six which starts at 13:55.

The Fairview Pick Six keeps on producing some upset results and we are in for some competitive racing again.
