LET’S ROCK!

June 2024

Henk Steenkamp

Two top three-year-old fillies from the Alan Greeff stable will be aiming at a second Listed victory for the season on Friday.

Three Rocks and Luna Halo will be lining up at the turf track for the R150 000 East Cape Breeders Stakes for fillies and mares over 1200m.

Earlier in the season Three Rocks won the Listed Lady’s Pendant and Luna Halo the Listed Breeders Guineas.

With top jockey Richard Fourie aboard, Three Rocks is the stable elect and has been priced up as the favourite.

The daughter of Heavenly Blue is unbeaten from three starts over this track and trip and is the horse to beat.

Luna Halo won her only attempt over this track and trip but seems to prefer further these days. She always gives everything and another good run is expected.

Gimme’s Lassie (Gavin Smith) will be challenging strongly and the two Cape Town visitors Pineapplemintgreen (Eric Sands) and Unconquerable Lady (Candice Bass-Robinson) must be respected.

They all have to be at their best to beat Three Rocks who can make it career victory number eight from 12 starts.

The feature race is race seven of the eight carded races and 15 runners will face the starter at 16:00.

The Greeff yard has not been firing on all cylinders at the last two Fairview meetings but Three Rocks can be considered a Pick Six banker on a difficult card.

The Pick Six is boosted by a carryover and the pool is predicted to reach R3 million. The Pick Six starts with race three at 13:35.

Sakurajima (Kelly Mitchley) looks like a banker in the first leg of the Bipot, race one at 12:30.

Kingdundee (Smith) is another possible banker in the first leg of the Place Accumulator, race two at 13:00.
