Landseer stands out in KZN

August 2024

Trainer Andre Nel has his yard in solid form and looks to have one of the better bets at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Thursday.

Lancaster Bomber-gelding Landseer should make amends after being beaten a neck at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, but he is not the only Nel-inmate to follow.

The Cape-based conditioner has taken his time with Landseer and he looks to be one that needed time to mature. He made his debut in May, late for a three-year-old, but he has caught the eye in all his starts to date.

He was beaten in a very close call by Captain Marsala who had finished further ahead of him the time before. The latter, under a well-judged Richard Fourie ride, waited at the back of the field which paid dividends as the rest of the field scrambled to keep up with the changing pace.

Landseer’s run then was a cracker as he was up with a good pace and then extended himself to catch the frontrunners only to allow one to get by. He did get a lot closer to Captain Marsala so is improving. What is also telling, is that he had two improving youngsters - New Frontier (who re-opposes) and Milan’s World - well beat while giving that pair 4kg each. He appeals as the banker bet in all exotics in Race 4, a 1600m Maiden Plate.

Always Shining, Magma Magic and New Frontier (can only improve) look set to fight out the places and it is the race to take the Trifectas and Quartets multiple times.
