LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY AT SOUTHWELL

August 2024

By Ashley Iveson, PA

Jungle Land can make a successful stable debut for George Boughey on the sixth and final night of the Racing League at Southwell.

After finishing second on his first two starts as favourite for Karl Burke, the Kodiac gelding made it third time lucky with an authoritative all-the-way victory at Redcar in late May.

The form of that race looks watertight, with the runner-up Coppull Hall Lane now rated 85 following two subsequent wins, while the third-placed Tourist and fifth home Titanium have also won twice since.

Jungle Land, on the other hand, has since switched stables, having been snapped up for 60,000 guineas last month on behalf of Highclere Thoroughbred Racing.

He enters the handicap arena with what looks a workable mark of 82 and can be expected to be in peak condition as he looks to provide Team Ireland’s Billy Loughnane with a valuable success in the Racing League Race 38 Handicap.

Fantasy Believer looks well placed to complete his hat-trick in the Racing League Race 41 Handicap.

Although getting on in years at the age of seven, Ed Walker’s charge appears to have returned better than ever this season, making a successful return from nine months off at Ascot in July before defying a 4lb rise to follow up three weeks ago.

His most recent performance can actually be upgraded considering he lost several lengths at the start and in the circumstances did well to stage a late recovery.

It is not the first time he has missed the break, so that has to be a small concern, but he is clearly in rude health at the moment and a 3lb rise ahead of his latest assignment looks more than fair, with an extra furlong viewed as a positive.

It is no surprise David O’Meara has decided to turn Star Of Lady M out quickly for the final race of the evening following her demolition job at York last week.

The Havana Grey filly secured her 10th career victory in some style on the Knavesmire, pulling just over four lengths clear of the field in a valuable fillies’ handicap and winning in what was not far off a course record time over the straight five furlongs.

The handicapper has slapped her with a 10lb rise, but she is able to compete here under a 5lb penalty and she will take some pegging back if she can get off to a good start.

Airspeed is rated the best bet at Carlisle in the Premier Electrical EBF Novice Stakes.

The Soldier’s Call colt was not winning out of turn when opening his account at Hamilton last month following a couple of sound efforts in defeat, and he was only narrowly beaten by stablemate Qaseem when bidding to follow up on his handicap debut at Haydock last time out.

The latter did that form no harm by finishing a close-up third in a valuable race at the Ebor meeting and Airspeed may not need to improve much if at all to get back on the winning trail.

Course favourite Detective can give weight and a beating to his rivals in division two of the Nxt Recruitment Handicap.

Dianne Sayer’s stable stalwart came from last to first to register a sixth victory at the Cumbrian circuit last week and even under a 4lb penalty he remains well treated on the best of his form.

Elsewhere, Bay City Roller can make it two from two for George Scott in the IRE-Incentive, It Pays To Buy Irish Novice Stakes at Chelmsford.
