Lancaster Bomber to hit the target

Gaynor Rupert's Drakenstein Stud enjoyed a fruitful Cape Summer season, winning both the Grade 1 Cape Guineas (Snow Pilot) and Grade 1 Cape Fillies Guineas (Beach Bomb) with progeny of ill-fated Lancaster Bomber, both Snaith-trained, and Be Merry is another promising daughter of the ill-fated War Front stallion.

She runs in Race 4 over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday after two promising introductory outings and is good value to shed her maiden tag under record-chasing Richard Fourie.

The best bet on the card is also a son of Lancaster Bomber and that is Eight On Eighteen in Race 2, a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1200m, and once again it is team of Snaith and Fourie everybody will have to beat.

This colt was also bred by Drakenstein but is owned by Nic Jonsson. His dam, Sempre Libre, is a half sister to the likes of Bela-Bela and Secret Of Victoria so the breeding is there.

Eight On Eighteen has raced twice, finishing a 0.50-length second behind Roma Forcesa and then a 1.60-length third to Surge Of Power. Both runs were over the same course and distance as Saturday’s event, and he was ridden by Grant van Niekerk.

This is not the strongest of fields and although there are six unraced horses in the field at this stage there has not been money for any of them.
