LADIES DAY?

September 2024

Henk Steenkamp

The lady trainers could start the new racing month at Fairview on a winning note at Monday’s Polytrack meeting.

Women’s Month has come and gone but trainers Kelly Mitchley, Sharon Kotzen and Tara Laing might continue the celebrations with some winners on the Poly.

They have some lively runners throughout the meeting, the first of seven meetings for September at a very busy Fairview.

The ladies have to get past the two top stables of Alan Greeff and Gavin Smith before they can celebrate.

These two stables are in good form and won’t be making it easy for the fairer sex to find the winners’ box.

The meeting starts with a competitive first race, the first leg of the Bipot, at 12:40.

Keep an eye on the filly Sierra Sky. She will be making her debut for the Mitchley stable and should be in the mix.

Guarding The Wall (Kotzen) will be making his poly debut from a good draw in the second race, a Classified Stakes, at 13:15.

The blinkers have been added to help the Querari gelding concentrate in the final stages of his race. Guarding The Wall looks like a banker in the first leg of the Place Accumulator.

Pick Six players get involved from race three at 13:50. Kotzen has another winning chance here with Knockemstiff.

Knockemstiff made a solid Poly debut for the yard in July. If he can follow up on this run, he will be a huge runner from a good draw in the first leg of the Pick Six.

The Mitchley yard looks particularly strong late in the day. Kanibambo (race 7) and Global Reef (race 8) are ready to strike.
