Kotzen to have bettors Feeling Groovy

Bettors are faced with the usual competitive card at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday but trainer Glen Kotzen and jockey Richard Fourie have been a winning combination of late and they should provide the best banker of the day in Feeling Groovy in Race 5.

The two-year-old daughter of Canford Cliffs meets mostly inexperienced, although unexposed, opposition in this Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1400m.

She has a lot in her favour – an in-form stable a top jockey and No 1 draw – but more importantly she has proven form at this course, which is most useful.

Her last two runs have been at Scottsville, her penultimate over this distance and last time over 1600m, and she finished runner-up in both of them.

In both cases she made most of the running but was caught late, and that might have resulted in the move back to 1400m.

She was only caught close home last time and went down 0.25 lengths to Uvoti. This will be the first time Fourie takes the ride and Feeling Groovy looks hard to beat in this field.

Trainer Mike de Kock has some decent runners on the card and the stable could come away with a couple of winners, but Fire Lord, who runs in Race 4, a Maiden Plate over 1400m, should offer good value.

This gelded son of Silvano was unlucky not to shed his maiden tag last year already but he appears to have had a few problems. Whatever his issues may have been, they appear to have been sorted out because in his last run he came within 0.50 lengths of downing highly regarded youngster Eyjafjallajökull.

The winner is highly thought of so Fire Lord’s performance was impressive and he looks well placed against the field he meets.
