Trainer Gavin Smith always knew he had a good one in Khaya's Hope and the United States gelding has continued to improve.
Khaya’s Hope reminded us how good he really is when beating some decent sprinters earlier this month.
He had previously been at his best around a turn and over further than the 1200m but allowed stable companion Cruise Control to set the early fractions last time and quickened past him to win easily.
The handicapper raised him six points for that win which saw him climb to a career high 113 but that will not matter for Race 7, the November Stakes (Non-Black Type) over 1400m on the Polytrack at Fairview on Friday, as he will meet the 107 rated Port Louis on level weights.
Khaya's Hope has yet to win in three tries on the Polytrack but that should all change on Friday.
Port Louis has also not won on the Polytrack and has had four starts on the surface.
These two look highly likely to fight out the finish.
