Kannemeyer, Zackey to strike again

March 2025

Rain, once again, is playing havoc with racing in KwaZulu-Natal and that has forced last weekend’s racing having to be moved – twice!

Originally, Hollywoodbets Greyville were scheduled to stage a turf day/night meeting last Friday while a second meeting was due to take place at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday.

After heavy rains in Durban forced the cancellation of Friday’s meeting, a decision was taken to move that to Sunday and have the Scottsville meeting on Monday.

However, further rain resulted in Greyville still unsafe for racing so that meeting was moved to Monday with Scottsville being staged on Wednesday.

At this stage it all looks set to go ahead so hopefully the meeting does take place because this nine-race Greyville meeting looks decent.

With the start of this year’s winter season around the corner, a number of runners will be having their warm-up races, including a pair of Dean Kannemeyer-trained runners with Craig Zackey up, and if they run to their full ability, there could be at least two bankers on the card.

The first comes up in Race 4, a Class 3 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1600m, where Kannemeyer sends out three-year-old daughter of Gimmethegreenlight Give Me Everything.

She has won her last three races in the Western Cape and last time ran out an easy winner of the Listed Schweppes Fillies Classic for three-year-olds over 1800m.

She looks far better than her rivals and as long as she handles the right-handed turn she looks very hard to beat.

Their other runners is Gimmie’s Countess who lines up in Race 6, the Grade 3 Umzinkhulu Stakes for three-year-old fillies over 1400m.

After winning her maiden on debut, this daughter of Gimmethegreenlight has only raced in feature races. She did win one of them, the Grade 3 Diana Stakes over 1400m, at HWB Durbanville.

She is at least 4.5kg better weighted with any other runners and from No 1 draw she looks hard to oppose.
