Juan Carlos looks the value in Glenlair Trophy

It is back to the turf at Fairview on Friday and there are some interesting races on offer. The feature race on the card is Race 7, the Glenlair Trophy (Listed) over 2800m.

This race is a puzzle as last year's easy winner Bournemouth is in the field and bidding to double up, but he has had eight runs since then without a win and has only two runner-up performances in those outings. It is probably worth noting that stable jockey and current rider of Bournemouth, Richard Fourie, has only ridden him once and that was when chasing home Home Reef.

The now six-year-old gelding was not disgraced in his preparation race for this, as he was sixth behind Zinovi over an inadequate 1600m. Rival in this, Zatara Magic, was third last year. He has had his best year since then and has won four of his nine starts after that, including picking up the very important Algoa Cup in October. Jockey Craig Zackey has been getting the best out of him.

There is, however, a new kid in town called Bad Medicine. This Kelly Mitchley-trained four-year-old gelding is unbeaten in three starts since joining her yard and those were impressive wins. The Vercingetorix gelding tries the 2800m for the first time, but that does not look a problem for him.

However, They all could end up playing second fiddle as Tara Laing-trained Juan Carlos has the ability to win the race. The eight-year-old Frankel gelding is in good form right now, as is the stable and jockey Wayne Agrella who will be taking the ride.
