Jet into the groove in the Cape

The nine-race card at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Tuesday is dominated by the leading stables, particularly that of champion trainer Justin Snaith, while JP van der Merwe, Aldo Domeyer, Corne Orffer and Richard Fourie are likely to share the spoils on the jockeys' front by riding two winners each.

Snaith's baker’s dozen is spearheaded by well-bred Groovejet who is good value to get off the mark in Race 1 over 1800m.

This son an expensive purchase at R1 million off Drakenstein Stud's draft at the 2022 August Two-Year-Old Sale and, like most of the Silvano progeny, this four-year-old gelding has taken time to hit his straps.

Groovejet has made just five racecourse appearances, the latest his best yet. He finished second going 1600m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on 25 June and would've come on further in the 10 weeks since.

The step up to 1800m in the opener ought to unlock even more improvement from Snaith's charge who Van der Merwe will again ride having finished fourth, third and second in three previous attempts.

Snaith has a stranglehold on Race 3, a Class 2 event over 1800m, in which he saddles more than half of the seven-horse field. His four-pronged attack is led by the 115-rated son of Trippi, Pacaya, a proven stakes performer with Graded race victories in each of his last two seasons.

Fourie has an impressive record aboard the six-year-old gelding who he has ridden six times and never finished worse than fourth, winning twice - the Grade 2 Greyville 1900 and last season's Grade 3 Legal Eagle Stakes.

Stablemate Sachdev is capable with solid form credentials and is an obvious inclusions in Exacta, Swinger and Trifecta bets.
