Jeriko set for flying start over fences at Sandown

November 2024

All eyes will be on Jeriko Du Reponet as he makes his fencing bow in the Boodles Novices' Limited Handicap Chase at Sandown on Sunday.

The five-year-old won three of his four hurdles starts last term, impressing with a cosy success at Newbury on debut before another comfortable victory back at that track on his second start.

He had to work a bit harder than expected for a Grade Two victory at Doncaster but nevertheless got the job done and headed to the Cheltenham Festival unbeaten for trainer Nicky Henderson.

The health issues the Seven Barrows team suffered ahead of Cheltenham were well documented and Jeriko Du Reponet was clearly one of those affected as he failed to fire at all in the Supreme, beaten a long way from home and eventually pulled up.

It is best to just put a line through that effort and Jeriko Du Reponet's hurdles efforts, combined with a point-to-point win before joining Henderson, bode well for his chasing prospects.

Noahsgreatrainbow can make a winning start over obstacles in the Molson Coors Maiden Hurdle.

A bumper winner on debut for Harry Derham, he found only Royal Infantry too good when upped to Listed level on his second start and given that rival's impressive outing earlier in the week, the form looks sound.

Hystery Bere is on a decent mark for the Aston Martin Handicap Hurdle after an encouraging start to the campaign.

The seven-year-old was rated 130 back in April 2022 but has slid down to his current perch of 118 after winning just once in two seasons of mixing and matching over fences and hurdles.

He tackled the smaller obstacles first time up this year, beaten just over 5-lengths in third at Exeter over a 3800m trip that appears to be on the edge of his stamina reserves.

Trainer Tom Symonds drops back to 3200m here, which should help his cause.

Vincenzo shaped with real promise on his seasonal bow in a Chepstow Grade Two last month.

It took him until his fifth attempt to get off the mark over hurdles but after scoring at the back end of the last campaign, he built on that again in the Persian War.

Admittedly, he was beaten 11-lengths in third but that was by far the toughest test he has been set to date and he looked one to follow in handicaps on that effort.

Vincenzo now lines up in the Trustatrader Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle at Sandown on a mark of 126, which looks a useful perch.

At Ffos Las, Ski Lodge is the one to watch in the JPR Phoenix Maiden Hurdle.

He bumped into now three-times winner Jurancon on his bumper bow but used the experience of finishing second there to good effect when scoring at the second time of asking at Chepstow. - Press Association
