Overall, it is a tough card on the Polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday but there are some interesting races.
One of these is Race 3, a Maiden Plate over 1400m, which at a quick glance looks a two-horse race between Weichong Marwing-trained Purpleninjaturtle and Peter Muscutt’s Nelson Bay.
Neither has raced on the Polytrack so how they will perform is unknown but both have decent form. Both are two-year-olds running in open company.
Purpleninjaturtle has only run twice, finishing unplaced on debut and then a promising 2.05-length third behind Max The Magician over 1450m on the Inside track at Turffontein. That form line has proved to be quite strong because the winner franked the form with another victory in his next start while runner-up French Impact finished second in his next start and then came out and won.
It is interesting to note that Purpleninjaturtle went off at 80-1 in that race so clearly was not too well fancied but he did produce the fastest 400m to finish.
Wesley Marwing will take the ride for his father.
However, there is not much wrong with the performance of Nelson Bay either. His three runs have been at Hollywoodbets Scottsville and in his second start finished a 0.55-length third behind Ermelo over 1400m.
That has also been a strong form line with two winners coming out of it.
In his next start, the son of Rafeef was drawn at No 11 in a 14-horse field over 1400m and found himself well out of his ground turning for home. However, he did run on well to end up a 2.0-length fifth behind Fibonacci in a decent field.
S’manga Khumalo took the ride last time and he is back aboard this time. They will jump from No 4 draw with Purpleninjaturtle alongside at No 5.
There is a slight preference for Nelson Bay but this should be very close.
