It’s Greeff’s time to strike

Gavin Smith had a fabulous day just last week with seven winners, but Alan Greeff could strike this Friday at Fairview.

Polytrack racing is always difficult and Greeff has numerous runners on the day, but there are two who really stand out.

Star Of The South was a bitter disappointment when well backed to win his penultimate start.

Clearly the blinkers he tried that day had the opposite effect than intended and they were quickly removed.

The form of his comeback run when fourth behind Moon Game is good enough to see off his rivals in Race 5, a MR 80 Handicap over 1400m, and as he will be fitter this time, improvement is expected.

Best on the day could be Travel Master in Race 8, a MR 72 Handicap over 1000m. This Global View gelding started his career in Cape Town with Brett Crawford but moved to Greeff in Port Elizabeth in May. He had two runs on the turf which were quite moderate and then in August had his first race on the Polytrack.

This was a much better performance as he finished fifth but beaten just two lengths. He was off for two months, but his comeback run last month over this course and distance was most encouraging as he ran on well to finish third, 1.75 lengths behind Notorix.

Greeff has taken off the blinkers for this run and once again teams up with Fourie, who rode Travel Master for the first time in his last start.
