Lancaster Bomber filly One Smart Cookie looks to have everything in her favour on Sunday at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, after having jumping from the worst of draws on debut.
Outside draws down the straight have been dead for some time now. One Smart Cookie had no horses on her outside as she drew No 15 out of 15. She had to make her way to the inside, but she moved up strongly into contention and in the end only allowed Minogue, who had drawn perfectly in gate No 2 to get by, finishing third and beaten just 1.70 lengths. She conceded 1.5kg to winner Miss Arlberg who like Minogue had the added advantage of a great stall (No 3).
The winner as well as the runner-up it must be said look progressive.
Even though bred to go at least 1400m, trainer Tienie Prinsloo has kept her to what she knows for now. She runs over the same course and distance as her debut effort in Race 2, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1200m.
It should make rider S’manga Khumalo’s job a lot easier who it appears also gave her a sympathetic ride three weeks back, but the cherry on the cake is her gate. She has now drawn in stall No 2.
Another horse who won’t need to do a ‘cross country’ movement is Cue The Rebel. She has drawn in gate No 1 in Race 3, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares also over 1200m. She too ran in the Miss Arlberg race, finishing fourth and beaten 2.50 lengths, and she also had to shift inwards from gate No 9.
Cue The Rebel, trained by Sean Tarry, in contrast to her previous runs when finishing second, did a bit too much up front and rider Richard Fourie who rode her for the first time, is likely to rein her in seeing that she only needs to maintain her position at the fence.
We could see the form line franked in Race 2 by One Smart Cookie and if that happens Cue The Rebel could come in for a lot of support.
