HURRY UP TO GET A BEVERLEY WINNER

May 2025

By Molly Hunter, PA

In A Hurry looks poised to get off the mark in the Skidby Restricted Maiden Stakes on the Westwood at Beverley.

The David O'Meara-trained Time Test filly was a good second in an Ayr maiden over a mile on her seasonal debut in April but was well beaten last time when stepping up a furlong in trip.

The combination of that extended distance and her over-enthusiasm put paid to her chances on that occasion, but now she is down to seven and a half furlongs.

Her debut as a juvenile last term was over seven furlongs and she was beaten a length into second in an encouraging run, and with two runner-up spots on her CV she looks ready to get her head in front.

Bell Shot looks the pick of the bunch in the Tyre Scope Handicap for Michael Appleby and Rossa Ryan.

The six-year-old has not won a race since July last year despite being busily campaigned, but he has hit the frame multiple times and is never far from the action over this seven-furlong trip.

His mark has fluctuated but has recently dropped to the lowest it has been since last summer, and though he was beaten in his two latest starts on turf it was by a relatively small margin both times.

On the all-weather at Kempton hopes will be high for Quadrantids as she makes her debut in the Try Unibet's New Improved Acca Boosts Maiden Fillies' Stakes.

The daughter of Dark Angel is out of a mare called Nocturne, making her a full-sister to her stablemate Tyrrhenian Sea, a smart all-weather campaigner with multiple wins and placings at Group and Listed level on his record.

The same mare also produced the Joseph O'Brien-trained So I Told You, a black-type filly and four-time winner.

Quadrantids, named after an annual meteor shower, would have a hard time outdoing her striking older brother in terms of beauty but if she possesses some of his ability she will be worth a watch on debut.

In the following Try Unibet's Improved Acca Boosts Novice Stakes it is Paul and Oliver Cole's Dr Strangelove who can come out on top.

The Mohaather colt, who is related to five winners on the dam side, went to this track to make his debut in April and despite showing an understandable greeness had the wherewithal to prevail by a neck.

He now steps up a furlong on the same track and can add another win to continue his pleasing progression under the supervision of the stable that trained his half-sister Expensive Date to three successes and a Listed placing.
