His Majesty can make a royal command Cape debut

November 2025

Jack Milner

An interesting eight-race card is the bill of fare at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Wednesday and at least they have had glorious sunshine in the Western Cape and punters will not have to bother about rain damaging the meeting.

The headliner on the card comes up in Race 7 and is a Progress Plate over 1400m. The best weighted runner is Justin Snaith-trained Little Suzie and this daughter of Trippi will be a popular bet for many punters. She has only raced nine times for two wins, two seconds and two thirds, and her last six outings have been in either Grade 1 or Grade 2 races.

Her last three runs were Grade 2 events at Hollywoodbets Greyville where after a warm-up run in the WSB Fillies Guineas over 1600m, she went on to win the Woolavington 2000 and then finished second in the Gold Bracelet, both over 2000m.

While she comes into this race at least 1.5kg better weighted than any of her rivals, there are a couple of concerns. Firstly, she has only raced against her own sex and in most cases only in her own age group. Secondly, her two wins have been over 1600m and 2000m and she could find this a touch short.

However, coming back from a 179-day break could be in her favour as she will be racing fresh, and the Snaith yard is in top form as is jockey JP van der Merwe who will ride her this time.

The sex issue is more relevant as the majority of her merit rating has come against other two and three-year-old fillies.

The interesting runner in the field is Vaughan Marshall-trained His Majesty, an imported five-year-old entire by successful sire No Nay Never.

As a two-year-old No Nay Never was unbeaten in three races and was best known for his exploits in Europe where he won the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot in England and the Prix Morny in France.

He was noted for his speed over sprint distances and was rated one of the best juvenile colts to race in Europe in 2013. As a three-year-old he won the Woodford Stakes and was narrowly beaten when favourite for the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint.

His Majesty is a one-time winner with four places from eight starts and will run in the same colours as Betway Summer Cup favourite The Equator.

This will be his first run in almost 13 months but there were some positive comments coming from Marshall who said: “Coming back from a long layoff due to import problems, doing nicely and should run a good race.”

Perhaps what is most significant is that Richard Fourie has been engaged for the ride and His Majesty could well make a winning debut in the country.
