The Alan Greeff stable should make it three Listed victories in a row when Luna Halo lines up in the R200 000 Listed Breeders Guineas on Friday.
Only six three-year-old fillies will contest the race over 1600m but the main event at the Fairview Turf track meeting promises to be a very good race.
Fairy Knight won the Listed Ibhayi Stakes and Three Rocks the Listed Lady’s Pendant, both with Richard Fourie in the saddle, last Friday.
Luna Halo can make it another Listed win after missing out to the Western Cape raider Gold Poker Game (Candice Bass-Robinson) in the Lady’s Bracelet in January.
A Cape Town visitor, Siddeley (Justin Snaith), will again be Luna Halo’s biggest danger. When they met almost a year ago as two-year-olds, also on the Fairview Turf, Luna Halo won the East Cape Fillies Nursery by 1.50 lengths.
Luna Halo won three Listed races as a two-year-old. The daughter of Fire Away was unbeatable at Fairview with Fourie in the saddle and will be looking to make it a seventh career victory in her 11th start.
“Luna Halo has done everything that was asked of her. This is a small but competitive field,” Greeff commented.
The visitor could put up a stronger challenge this time. Siddeley has been in very good form in her recent Cape Town races but is trying the distance for the first time.
Siddeley will have to be at her very best to beat the local champion. JP van der Merwe takes the ride.
The Breeders Guineas is race seven of the eight races and is off at 15:55.
The first race is at 12:25 and is a tricky first leg of the Bipot.
Trainer Duncan McKenzie has two lively runners, Princess Hannah and String Of Lights, in the second race at 12:55. This race gets the Place Accumulator underway.
On The Guest List (Greeff) looks the right one in race three, which is the first leg of the Pick Six at 13:35. Lady Writer (Mitchley) and Trip To Barberton (Gavin Smith) are the dangers.
Africa’s Rock will be trying to make it two wins in a row for trainer Jurgen van Heerden when the first Jackpot starts with race four, a Classified Stakes over 1900m, at 14:10.
It is not going to be easy with Reach For The Stars (Smith) and Alado’s Pride (Zietsman Oosthuizen) big runners. Also keep an eye on Harold The Duke which debuts for the Mitchley yard.
The Greeff-Fourie combination looks strong again in race five, the first leg of the second Jackpot, at 14:45. Global Ally has been in tremendous form and is the horse to beat in this handicap over 1400m.
Race sixth is another Classified Stakes, this time over 1400m, at 15:20. It is a competitive race.
After the feature race the eighth and last is an open fillies and mares handicap with 18 runners going to post.
Fire those Quartets in this one and don’t leave out Holly’s View (Greeff) and Lady Majorca (Juan Nel)!
