Guineas pointers at Durbanville

The eight-race card at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday is highlighted by the reappearance of last season's Cape Racing star two-year-old filly Winter Cloud, who makes her comeback in Race 8 over 1250m.

Winter Cloud is hard to oppose despite shouldering 60kg on her return to action against older rivals. She finished second to unbeaten Equus Champion Mrs Geriatrix in the two-year-old Grade 1 Allan Robertson Championship last season and she needn't run anywhere near that level of form to make a winning reappearance.

However, trainer Candice Bass-Robinson has issued a warning to bettors by saying: “She’s a classy sort but may need her first run back.”

She is a full sister to Clouds Unfold, who while beaten in to third place in the 2018 Grade 1 Cape Fillies Guineas did go on to win the Grade 1 Majorca Stakes over 1600m two years running, in 2019 and 2020.

While Winter Cloud has yet to race beyond 1200m, one would assume the Cape Fillies Guineas will be on her agenda where she is likely to comes up against Mrs Geriatrix again as Sean Tarry’s charge is already in Cape Town for the season.

On the subject of the Guineas, exciting and undefeated three-year-old colt Green With Envy is probably en-route to the Grade 1 Cape Guineas and will be all the rage in Race 6 as Dean Kannemeyer's charge is likely to improve any amount going 1600m.

Both his victories have been over 1400m and his last was at Durbanville so he will have no issues with the course. He produced a remarkable final 400m last time, and after looking unlikely to run a place going through the 400m, he flew up to win going away, beating Gallic Dream by 1.50 lengths.

Craig Zackey rode him to victory last time and is back in the irons on this occasion.
