Greeff set for a good day

October 2022

Jack Milner

Trainer Alan Greeff could have a decent meeting at Fairview on Tuesday as he has a number of runners with decent winning chances.

Recent recruit Heathcliff looks his most likely winner on the card and he could get the ball rolling in Race 2, a Maiden Handicap over 1600m.

The Canford Cliffs gelding still holds an entry to a big feature race so he will need to win, and win well, in order to justify his presence in that event, but it must be noted Heathcliff has been an unlucky loser in both of his runs at Fairview.

Those runs were on the turf and this will be his first taste of the Polytrack but he does look better than his rivals.

Back in May Heathcliff looked the winner going into the closing stages only to have Maiden’s Cove fly up late to nab him.

In his latest start Heathcliff moved right up to rival Indy View and once he looked likely to go past, he started to shirk the issue very late and lose by a head.

Franca continues to prove better than her rating and should run well in Race 3, a Conditions Plate for fillies and mares over 1200m.

She let the side down last time when heavily backed and only managed to finish fourth behind Gillian Anne, but there were excuses for that defeat and Richard Fourie should fare better this time.

Ancestral Prayer is clearly a hard horse with which to win and has built up a string of four recent runner-up finishes.

She is capable of a strong finish and the pace in Race 5 should be strong as Dancing Girl has been winning some races from the front.

If that is the case once again then Ancestral Prayer can go one better this time.
