GREEFF CAN FEATURE AGAIN

July 2025

Henk Steenkamp

Champion trainer Alan Greeff will be eyeing yet another feature race win at the Fairview Polytrack on Friday.

He will saddle four of the ten fillies and mares who will be contesting the R150 000 Walmer Handicap (Non-Black Type) over 1800m – race 7 at 15:45.

Greeff won this race with Joy And Peace last year and all of Gideon’s Daughter, Lotus Island, First Wish and Call To Glory have a money chance this time.

Our pick is First Wish who has won twice and finished third once from five starts on the poly.

Her last win came over this distance but jockey Andrew Fortune will have to make sure First Wish gets away well.

She has a tendency to lose ground at the start and this could place Fortune under pressure.

Lotus Island is drawn widest of all but is probably the biggest danger to her stablemate. Charles Ndlovu is in the saddle.

The Sharon Kotzen stable is back in form and a good run can be expected from Honorable Member.

Her jockey Luyolo Mxothwa booted home three winners at the same track on Wednesday and will give the daughter of Rabada a confident ride.

The first race is at 12:15 and gets the Bipot underway. The Place Accumulator starts with the second race at 12:50.

Beach Queen will be the horse to beat in race three, the first leg of the Pick Six, at 13:25.

The Justin Snaith trained filly is drawn in pole position and it is now up to apprentice jockey Jacey Botes to bring the possible banker home.

Amanatto (Greeff) and Ruby Claire (Smith) will push Beach Queen all the way.
