Two former champion jockeys, S’manga Khumalo and Warren Kennedy, are the jockeys to be with at Hollywoodbets Grevyille on Sunday.
Both have competitive rides throughout the tricky eight-race race card but are likely to reward their followers on runners that should go off at decent each-way odds.
Kennedy has ridden Winter Journey in each of her last three starts for a fourth, a second and a third, so his decision to ride Gareth van Zyl-trained Indigo Fields instead speaks volumes of the latter’s chances in Race 1.
This well-related daughter of What A Winter was third on debut over 1200m and backed that up with another third-place finish over 1400m when last seen. She reverts to 1200m in the opener and the booking of Kennedy from gate No 3 could pave the way for Mario Ferreira’s filly to open her account.
Khumalo should level the score in Race 2 aboard Running Rifles, who Justin Snaith trains for prominent owner Nic Jonsson.
This three-year-old son of Vercingetorix wasn’t disgraced in either outing when still in Cape Town before finishing an improved second on his KwaZulu-Natal introduction over 1200m. On pedigree, Running Rifles should improve stepped up to 1400m and it is encouraging Khumalo retains the ride aboard the gelding at his first go around a bend.
