Former Equus Champion Broodmare Halfway To Heaven originally had two of her sons in action at HWB Kenilworth on Sunday, Ferryman in Race 5 and Foudre in Race 7.
However, Foudre has been scratched and that has left Ferryman to carry the can to keep their strong family line going.
Halfway To Heaven is the dam of three Grade 1 winners, Hawwaam, Rainbow Bridge and Golden Ducat. And while the later group have been less prolific only one has retired still a maiden.
Ferryman, who is trained by Andre Nel, has only had one run and that was an excellent debut, finishing second over 1200mat this course. He opened at 2-1 but was allowed to drift out to 5-1 at the off. He was reported to be restless and lost some ground at the start but produced the fastest final 400m to finish 1.25 lengths behind Waves Of Glory.
The son of Vercingetorix moves up to 1400m in this Maiden Plate and with the experience of a race now under his belt and off a decent No 4 draw should be very hard to beat. Aldo Domeyer rode him on debut and he will be back in the irons once again
Ferryman looks to be standout bet on this 11-race card.
Because of the size of the card there will be three Jackpots at the Meetings (Races 1 to 4, 5 to 8 and 7 to 11 respectively) and two BiPots, so there are plenty betting opportunities for punters.
