Gallic Tribe stands out at Fairview

December 2023

Jacques Strydom-trained Gallic Tribe should reward favourite backers in Race 6, the R175,000 Founders Trophy (Non-Black Type) over 1600m on the Polytrack at Fairview.

This Vercingetorix gelding possesses a smart of turn of foot, which will stand him in good stead on the short straight of the Eastern Cape all-weather surface. He won his penultimate start over this course and distance before finishing third in the Listed Algoa Cup over 2000m on the turf five weeks ago. A repeat of that performance back on the Polytrack should prove too good for his eight rivals and Gallic Tribe, who races off of an unchanged merit rating of 101, is good value to land the spoils under Robert Khathi.

He is taking on some good and in-form rivals.

Port Louis has been unlucky of late and has not been beaten too far in his recent runs. He made better weighted Khaya's Hope fight all the way to the line last time out and has run well over this course and distance.

He has not been at his best on the turf of late but will like returning to the Polytrack.

Outofthedarkness showed some talent when trained in Gauteng, winning four races. He tries the Polytrack for the first time and deserves consideration.

Perfection has won using front-running tactics so it was disappointing to watch his last run when caught out of his ground. He ran on nicely that day.

Bush Tracker has made vast improvement this year, winning some nice races with three of them being on the Polytrack.

A positive ride on Friday could pay off for his connections.
