Jack Milner: Querari Ferrari will be out to defy the odds and win her first race over 1600m at Turffontein on Thursday.
The four-year-old daughter of Querari runs in Race 7, a MR 90 Handicap for fillies and mares on the Standside track.
The Erico Verdonese-trained filly has had seven attempts at the distance for one second place and two thirds. But it might be a case that as she matures, Querari Ferrari is starting to develop some stamina because what is encouraging is that she produced the fastest 400m to finish in her start, which was over 1600m on the Inside track at Turffontein.
That race was the Listed Syringa Handicap for fillies and mares and was quite a bit stronger than this event. The average merit rating for that race was 94 while Thursday’s event is 83.
And with this race taking place on the Standside with the longer home straight, this race could be ideal for her.
She is likely to be dropped out in any case as she has drawn widest of all at No 11. Raymond Danielson rode her in the Syringa Handicap for the first time and he is back aboard.
If Querari Ferrari fails to see it out, there is no shortage of dangers.
Others with claims include Lady Amherst, Golden Spoon, Sultanah and even stable companion Ideal Angel, who is chasing a hat-trick of wins.
