Fourie to win to Wild Applause

There was a lot to like about the debut run of Wild Applause, and the three-year-old daughter of Vercingetorix stands out as the best bet on Saturday’s card at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.

The Justin Snaith-trained filly lines up in Race 5, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1400m and looks likely to benefit form the extra 150m this time, having run over 1250m at this course in her first appearance.

She is a full sister to another Snaith-trained runner, Get Impressed, who won the Listed Darley Arabian over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Greyville on World Pool Gold Cup day.

Get impressed is a four-time winner and his sister could be just as good, if not better. Wild Applause finished a 1.25-length second behind Mai Sensation who went off a 13-20 favourite and that form has been franked by third-placed Golden Angel, who went on to win her next start, beating Tuscan Sensation by 0.50 lengths.

Interestingly, the latter is also in this race but a line through Golden Angel, Wild Applause should have her measure, especially as champion jockey Richard Fourie is in the irons on this occasion.

Fourie should also be on target in Race 2 over 1000m where he rides Fencing Captain for trainer Piet Botha. The Captain Of All colt deserves a change of luck after finishing second in consecutive course-and-distance outings.
