Champion rider Richard Fourie looks to have scored a few decent rides at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday and may just be the man to follow.
Fourie will be champing at the bit in Race 3, a 1000m C Stakes race, where he rides form choice Moody Blue for the first time.
Jumping from stall No 1 is half the battle won and the Mike Stewart trained Moody Blue is in good nick. He was unlucky to lose his penultimate start where he had things go wrong but finished clear second best. He was beaten 0.75-lengths by re-opposing All About Al and not only is he weighted to turn the form around, he has drawn in gate one whereas All About Al must negotiate the widest berth.
When third last time out Moody Blue mastered consistent Catch A Penny, who is best weighted which must say something about his chances. He should notch up career win number two.
Star World looks to have both William’s Woman (beaten favourite last time) and Final Call well held at the weights in Race 5, a 1250m Class 5 Fillies and Mares handicap, and the chestnut filly trained by Vaughan Marshall is another with a clear chance at the win for Fourie.
She looks well placed in the lineup but more importantly her Maiden win came with Fourie aboard. She won with a slipped saddle and in her next start with the record-breaking rider she finished third beaten only 0.95-lengths from the widest gate.
Canford Cliffs gelding Show Off was probably the unluckiest horse on the day last time out. He battled to find a clear run when form runner Boogiefied got away at the right time and was eating up the ground only for the line to come up with less than half a length to make up.
The James Crawford inmate showed decent potential earlier but then lost form suddenly, with the yard in hot form he could get back to winning ways in Race 7, a Class 4 handicap over 1400m.
While the handicapper was impressed with the run hiking his rating up two points, he may be way above that considering his time was more than 3 seconds faster than the average. He might be the best bet on the day.
