Jockey Richard Fourie won the Grade 2 East Coast Radio Tibouchina Stakes at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday and in doing so shattered the record of 334 winners in a season set by Anthony Delpech.
Running on strongly in the closing stages, Fourie brought aptly named Double Grand Slam home to ride his 335th winner of the season and with almost eight weeks left in the season is well on his way to setting up an incredible target.
In doing so he also will be paid out a bonus of R1-million offered by Hollywoodbets prior to the start of the season to any jockey who could accomplish the feat.
Fourie punched the air as he crossed the line as he celebrated his remarkable feat. This horse is partly owned in by golf legend Gary Player and is named in his remarkable accomplishment of winning all four majors for his first Grand Slam and then achieving the same on the Senior Tour.
"It's ironic that my win came on horse owned by Mr Player and is called Double Grand Slam," said Fourie.
"It's unreal, it hasn't quite sunk in yet but I must say a special thank you to everyone, there's a long list.
"I must say thank you mom, she's definitely watching, definitely crying.
"But, we've done it!"
