Fourie and Greeff set for a Direct Hit

Trainer Alan Greeff has some really talented two-year-olds in his yard, so much so, that he has been willing to take on far stronger opposition in the Western Cape.

Not for the first time, they have proved good enough to win and that is actually the case with Direct Hit, who destroyed a field of home-based fillies in the Grade 3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth, scoring a facile 2.75-length victory.

On Friday at Fairview the unbeaten daughter of Canford Cliffs will contest the Listed East Cape Nursery over 1200m and she looks impossible to oppose.

While juveniles do not get an official merit rating, they are given an official one and in the case of Direct Hit, it is 103, which is 19 points, or 9.5kg, more than Instaworthy, who is the second highest rated filly in the field.

As this race is run at level weights Direct Hit looks to have an unbeatable edge over her opponents.

She won on debut at this track over 1000m by 7.25 lengths before that to the Western Cape.

Jockey Richard Fourie was aboard her for both those wins and he is back on board for this event.

The Fourie - Greeff partnership should get punters off to a good start at the course where they team up with Augusta Rosso in a Maiden Juvenile Plate for fillies over 1200m.

This Eric The Red filly received plenty of betting support on debut but found more experienced rival Bonjour La Ville a bit too speedy on the day, but she did run with plenty of merit. Augusta Rosso was doing her best work late and she will have learned plenty from that debut performance.

She will be hard to beat.

So too should stable companion Lady Silvano in Race 3, a Conditions Plate for fillies and mares over 2000m.

This Fourie-ridden Greeff-trained filly has got better with each run this season. She picked up her fifth career win last time out on the Polytrack over 1600m but is just as good over this distance. Although she does give weight away to all her rivals she is clearly the one to be with.
