Fortune Bay to go one better at Scottsville

November 2022

Racing is at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday, and most will have a go at the ‘double of the day’ – Fortune Bay in Race 2 and Sun Blushed in Race 5 – and for good reason.

Fortune Bay has run two good seconds in a row and looks ready to win. She was well supported on debut but her saddle slipped, she finished blowing and yet was a clear second best.

Rightfully she drifted out in the betting second time out as she was dropping to 1000m and lacked the early speed to stay with her field. Nevertheless, she finished well to beat all barring runaway winner Get In The Q who had plenty of experience at the track.

As a result, she finds herself well prepped this time and having finished ahead of both Swiss Paradise and Delilah’s Gold should run out a fluent winner of this Maiden Plate over 1200m.

We saw Michael Roberts-trained classy See It Again confirm his promise as a Guineas contender when running out an easy win over highly regarded individuals recently and Roberts is sending out more of his best.

Sun Blushed, with a merit rating of 106, is higher rated than See It Again (104) and his trainer will be hoping he confirms his rating in Race 5, a Novice Plate over 1400m. The United States gelding is best weighted and has been running as if in need of a longer trip.

In fact, he has plenty stamina in his pedigree, but he also has a fair dose of speed both from his sire and his dam’s sire, Kildonan.

If AJ’s Captain comes back to best, he could be a threat. He was rated 102 as a juvenile but did not appear to train on after having been gelded.

He now makes his debut for Dean Kannemeyer whose comment on the runner is ‘doing well, include in exotics’ so keep an eye on this one.

Roberts also sends out unbeaten Russian Doll in Race 7. She impressed as a juvenile but may just need it following a 147-day break, especially against toughened handicappers in this FM 78 Handicap over 1000m.

Get In The Q could be the value proposition, carrying 3kg less than Russian Doll, but include both, along with Beckoning Beauty and Ethiopian Queen.
