Fitzsimmons charge set for a golden run

November 2023

Luke Middlebrook

Singapore racing continues on Saturday featuring an 11-race turf and dirt fixture.

Promising four-year-old Golden Brown can make amends for his narrow last-start defeat when he returns to Kranji in the $50,000 Class 4 Handicap over 1200m on the Polytrack.

Trained by Tim Fitzsimmons, Golden Brown had previously been rested for 10 months before resuming with an impressive maiden win two starts ago in early August.

Most recently the Supido gelding was far from disgraced with a close second in his Class 4 debut. The form has since been confirmed with multiple runners performing well subsequently.

Returning from a two-month break Golden Brown has turned in an easy trial win leading up to his first-up assignment.

His main rival is the Jason Ong-trained War Pride who is first-up after a four-month break. War Pride is making his second start back in Class 4, where he is always a threat, and was last seen finishing an unlucky fourth place over 1200m on turf.

On that occasion he was wide and checked in the run before being badly held up in the straight but was only beaten by 1.25 lengths. He has looked sharp in his trials leading up to his return and any Jason Ong-trained runner deserves plenty of respect given his current form.

Keep an eye on Pacific Beauty in the $20,000 Open Maiden contest over 1200m on turf in Race 6. She drew wide in barrier No 12 last start and was ridden from the back.

She raced greenly while sitting off the lead speed by many lengths at the 800m and 400m marks. However, she responded sharply in the straight where she made up ground to finish 2.25 lengths behind in sixth place.

Pacific Beauty races first-up after a stable change to Dan Meagher and her trial was quiet but good. With a light weight in a moderate Open Maiden contest, she looks primed for a strong return from a lower draw. - iRACE magazine

SINGAPORE RACE ANALYSIS – 4 NOV 2023

RACE 1

1st Pick: FABU (2)

Jumped and sat off the speed last start where he should settle again this start. Holding his form this season and another win wouldn’t surprise.

2nd Pick: WAR STAR (1)

Scored his first win last start coming off a strong minor placing. This is a sharp rise in weight and if he handles that he holds each way claims.

3rd Pick: FLAK JACKET (6)

Has been plagued by bad barriers this strong thirteen-year-old and there was plenty to like about the way he hit the line strongly last start.

4th Pick: BEN WADE (7)

Always consistent in this grade. Doesn’t win all that often but he continues to collect prize money for connections and looks a quartet filler.

RACE 2

1st Pick: ERUPTION (1)

Completely blew the start as he reared on jumping last start and was never in the race. Has had two solid trials since then and if he jumps, he will be right amongst the top three.

2nd Pick: OCTOBER (11)

Finished a nice third placing behind Kungfu Hero who looks well above average in that victory. This gelding should take natural improvement second up for the in form Gray stable.

3rd Pick: EMPOWERING (2)

His last two races have been very strong form races and proven performers have come out of those starts. Seemed to appreciate the addition of winkers at his most recent start.

4th Pick: SUPREME LINER (12)

Won his trial last week in a moderate time of 61.93 but did look strong and balanced in that heat. Looking for natural improvement to figure.

RACE 3

1st Pick: CASH KING (1)

Won his maiden over this distance back in September and has had a freshen up since that win. Seems to appreciate the Turf and watch any betting moves.

2nd Pick: MY BOSS (6)

This old boy has really turned a corner in the last two starts including a win and a recent minor placing. Saddled up by our leading stable.

3rd Pick: DARCY (2)

This one-time winner makes his Class five debut this weekend. The Burridge Stable usually get it right when they get them to a suitable race.

4th Pick: GALAXY STAR (5)

His form hasn’t been at his best in most recent runs and continues to drop down in the ratings and weights. Give him another chance to bounce back.

RACE 4

1st Pick: SAGE RIDGE (7)

Finds himself in a very winnable race here. Plenty to like about his third placing a few weeks ago and caught the eye winning a trial between runs.

2nd Pick: STRONG ACE (4)

He has been consistent enough in his career so far having some nice minor placings around this distance. Looks to have genuine place claims.

3rd Pick: MAZE (3)

Comes from a leading stable who place their runners well. Wasn’t suited by leading last start and if he gets a better run off the speed, he can make a good go of this field. Don’t dismiss.

4th Pick: GOLDEN WAY (5)

Draws nicely in barrier five and finds a very open field to make a difference to his career record. Not the worst here.

RACE 5

1st Pick: WAR PRIDE (1)

Racing first up for a few months since the middle of this year. Has two trials since that last start and performs well at this course and distance.

2nd Pick: GOLDEN BROWN (6)

Has been seen at the trials on a few occasions as he doesn’t have the best barrier manners. Looks to be a talented type and if he can put it all together, he can score here.

3rd Pick: PALETAS (2)

Was well supported in the betting on his return to the grade last start where he finished third and not beaten too far. Can bounce back in a big way.

4th Pick: REIGNITE (3)

Didn’t really fire a shot last start after having a nice run-in transit over this same course and distance. His record is too good to ignore a selection.

RACE 6

1st Pick: WINDFALL (11)

Looking like he won’t be a maiden for too long as he tries to turn those minor placings into a win here. Form is strong around his previous races and must be overlooked.

2nd Pick: STAR NORTH (1)

Not seen at the races since April where he finished second to Arya Pakuan. Looked very sharp that day and if the stable have him ready to fire he can go well fresh.

3rd Pick: PACIFIC SNOOPY (9)

Switches onto the Turf this weekend after an honest performance behind Nature Chief in his maiden race. Went to the line well last week in his trial.

4th Pick: MAGIC MASTER (2)

Gets back in distance after being well supported in betting last start at 1400m. If you go off his run two starts back that will be good enough to figure here.

RACE 7

1st Pick: SHEESH (9)

Comes into this event on a lightweight and has really dropped down the ratings over the past two years. If he can roll forward and get things his way you could be looking at a good price winner.

2nd Pick: BLUE IDOL (1)

Just the one start at this course and distance in the past and has been performing well this season in this class. Finds himself in a very open race.

3rd Pick: CENTURION (7)

He was massive last start over 1000m finishing second to his stablemate at a massive price. Let’s face it he is much better at a mile and will take plenty from that run.

4th Pick: KHAO MANEE (3)

Has been costly to favourite backers a few times this season but has been catching the eye late recording strong last sectionals. Should be winning very soon.

RACE 8

1st Pick: WAR FRONTIER (2)

Rider was charged last start after failing to ride to the satisfaction of Stewards and was very strong to the line. His best form will see him be hard to hold out in this event.

2nd Pick: MISTER DYNAMO (1)

His performance was solid on his return to this grade last start and his record shows he is very potent at this level. Respect.

3rd Pick: CASH OUT (10)

He seems to be pretty one dimensional and that is to just go, go, go. If he can find the front and give them something to chase maybe could finish in the money.

4th Pick: THE SHADOW (5)

He has proven himself in the past racing off a similar rating. Does like to settle back and will be hoping for good early speed to find the line late.

RACE 9

1st Pick: MONTANA FLASH (6)

Has been teasing a win is near at his last few starts flying home from the back of the fields in very slick sectionals. Gets his chance here.

2nd Pick: MAKIN (1)

Beat Jin Sakamoto who he faces again at the same grade. Has been penalised naturally from last win. If he handles the rise in weight can make it two in a row.

3rd Pick: LIM'S BESTBREAKER (2)

Strong win at the start of last month over this same distance. Has the benefit of a trial since that win and stable look to have him going well.

4th Pick: JIN SAKAMOTO (5)

Looks an improving type after three starts here in Singapore. If he can dig deep and find a length or two then he could be the one to upset the favourites.

RACE 10'

1st Pick: ACE SOVEREIGN (2)

Another eye-catching performance when rated up on the speed behind Makin a few weeks ago. Well placed in this grade.

2nd Pick: IN ALL HIS GLORY (1)

Form has dropped off lately but comes back in grade to class four for the first time since July last year where he bolted in by three lengths. Can bounce back.

3rd Pick: RED DRAGON (3)

He is a winner of two of his last three starts. Statistics are solid at the distance and looks to be in great form. Deserves respect.

4th Pick: RODA ROBOT (11)

Has done plenty of racing over the last month and connections are happy to send him around again here. Showed no signs of flatness last week with a strong minor placing.

RACE 11

1st Pick: GRAND SAGE (3)

Up and coming type who could really rise through the grades here. He is looking to make it four on the bounce and brings good form lines behind him.

2nd Pick: LIM'S CRAFT (1)

Contested class three last start when he was eligible for easier and finished a strong second behind the talented gelding Bestseller.

3rd Pick: AXEL (7)

Has been struggling to make the fields in recent weeks and gets into this off a strong trial win. Thrives at this course and distance.

4th Pick: ARYA PAKUAN (6)

Well supported in the market first up but failed to fire on a firm surface that day. He is better than that and may just benefit with a run under his belt. Don’t ignore.
