Fillies back on an old course in Cape

May 2023

Jack Milner

Racing reverts to the Winter Course at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Wednesday and the shorter home stretch could suit some of the runners in action.

Four-year-old fillies Metar and Peut Etre Moi are seldom far behind the winner and they could benefit from the change in course and a drop in merit ratings when they line up in Race 6, a Cape C Stakes for fillies and mares over 1800m.

Brett Crawford-trained Metar’s chances could be buoyed by a five-point drop, which equates to 2.5kg, from her last two outings. In addition, her last run on this course was in August last year saw her shed her maiden.

The daughter of Soft Falling Rain does take a slight drop in class and that is also in her favour. She is drawn slightly wide at No 9 but over this sort of distance jockey Louie Mxothwa should easily be able to overcome that hurdle.

Master Of My Fate filly Peut Etre Moi finished a close-up second over 2000m off a similar rating two starts back but was unplaced last time after having been punched up three points by the handicappers. She has been dropped two points following that performance and reverts to the course and distance of her third place in the Listed Stormsvlei Stakes last year, so she ought to play a leading role if bouncing back to that form.

Richard Fourie takes the ride on the Justin Snaith-trained runner.

Unexposed Estimated could improve after a 64-day break to stake a claim. The Vaughan Marshall-trained three-year-old filly has only raced four times and this three-year-old daughter of William Longsword could show a lot of improvement.

She is, however, held by Peut Etre Moi on the run behind Supreme Dream but that was at Hollywoodbets Durbanville. Corne Orffer takes the ride.
