Field to strike Solario Gold

August 2024

Field Of Gold is taken to follow up his impressive maiden success in the Sky Bet Solario Stakes at Sandown on Saturday.

It is a race John Gosden has an exceptional record in and now with son Thady on the licence too, they are sticking to what they know.

Previous Clarehaven inmates to have won the Group Three include Raven's Pass, Too Darn Hot and the best of them all, Kingman.

Owned by Juddmonte, Field Of Gold is by Kingman so will be aiming to emulate his sire after making a promising debut behind a subsequent Listed winner at Doncaster.

He stood out in the paddock before his next run at the July meeting and oozed class in winning by over 3-lengths. The sixth won next time out, but the form has yet to seriously be tested.

Entered in all the right juvenile races at the end of the season, Field Of Gold looks a top-class prospect.

Tamfana is a short price in the Sky Bet Atalanta Stakes but while she is the form pick, it is hard to work out her optimum distance.

When beaten just a length in the 1000 Guineas she looked to be crying out for a step up in trip.

However, she looked a bit one-paced in the French Oaks when third and then again when fourth in the Grand Prix de Paris against the colts over 2400m.

Now right back down at 1600m, she is worth taking on with Rolica who was slightly unlucky behind Tamfana in the Guineas and can be forgiven her run in France on heavy ground last time out.

Good Earth won with plenty up his sleeve last week and is taken to follow up in the Sky Bet Build A Bet Handicap.

Admittedly everything was in his favour, as he loves Newmarket and had dropped to a mark of 76 having started the season off 89.

Benoit de la Sayette rode him for the first time and got a great tune out of him, so a 5lb rise might not stop him.

Marcus Tregoning's Quietness is improving at a rate of knots and can notch up a fifth win from six starts this season in the William Hill Silver Cup Handicap at Beverley.

Having lost on his penultimate outing at Sandown, he went to Thirsk and dominated in a 0-90 contest. Up in grade to a 0-105, he only faces four rivals but one of those, Walter Hartright, is another who likes to race prominently, so it will be interesting.

Jack Channon's Staincliff lacks experience but it could be an inspired bit of placing in the William Hill Beverley Bullet.

She looks all speed and this Listed test, in a small field against some largely exposed rivals, could be within her range.

Richard Hannon's beautifully-bred King Of Cities finished third on debut in what looked a red-hot Newmarket maiden.

Victory in something like the British Stallions Stud EBF Novice Stakes at Chester should be a formality for this half-brother to Inisherin, who holds an entry in the Dewhurst.

Andrew Balding's Fairbanks was not beaten too far in the Ebor last week and was repeatedly denied a run close home.

He makes a quick return in the Virgin Bet Chester Stakes and can gain Listed compensation.

Quite why William Haggas' Raneenn went off at 25-1 on her debut at Yarmouth is a mystery given she cost 260,000 guineas, but it did not prevent her from making a winning start.

She faces far more experienced rivals in the Powells Jewellery EBF Fillies' Conditions Stakes but it looked an above-average contest that she won. - Press Association
