Fanie to open with a Polytrack double

June 2025

Jack Milner

Racing is set for the Polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday and Highveld-based trainer Fanie Bronkhorst is making a full raid at the meeting with seven runners carded to run on the nine-race card.

Most of them are untried on the Polytrack but Bronkhorst must feel they will be suited to the course otherwise he is likely to be wandering trekking them all the way to Durban.

He could get punters off to a good start as he looks must have high hopes of winning the first two races on the card.

Race 1 is a Maiden Juvenile Plate for fillies 1000m where all nine runners are open to any amount of improvement. However, Bronkhorst’s bay filly, Raceway, could be ahead of her rivals at this point of their careers.

After making a fair debut when beaten into fourth in a competitive race against males, she followed up with a determined finish and was quite unlucky not to win.

Ridden by Muzi Yeni, she was beaten a neck by Versace Onthetrack who had also shown decent potential but had shifted inwards causing a ripple effect at the finish. Just behind Raceway was Wings Of Ice, who won her next start easily.

Raceway fluffed her lines last time when tried over 1200m but jockey Gavin Lerena reported something amiss and she did finish well out of contention.

Yeni is back in the irons and Raceway could be a natural for the poly.

In Race 2, an Open Maiden over 1200m, Lerena rides Time Will Tell who has turned in decent efforts in just about all of his starts on the Highveld and after being beaten 0.50-lengths in his last start he could turn in a winning effort with blinkers fitted.

Time Will Tell has drawn well in gate No 2.
