A R250,000 carryover to JACKPOT ONE headlines Friday's card at Fairview. The pool is set to total over R1 million, so make sure your bets are on before Race 5 at 14:10. Pick the winners of the four legs and you could be in line for a big payout. Here's a guide on how to win a share of the Jackpot.
Leg 1: Race 5 – Middle Stakes 2400m
This is an extremely tricky leg with many having winning chances. Likely favourite 8-PUERTO PLATA has won twice since joining trainer Alan Greeff, but was a disappointment last time out. That was on the Polytrack and he is now back on turf, the surface on which he has won twice.
Trainer Gavin Smith and jockey Craig Zackey are building a decent record and the disappointing of late 5-NOTHINGELSEMATTERS could like the step up in distance. Two other runners at longer odds, 7-MAGNUM FIRE and 6-JUAN CARLOS, could be worth including. JUAN CARLOS was not too far behind PUERTO PLATE last time out and could have gone close to winning but for the interference. MAGNUM FIRE last won in October 2022 and that was over this course and distance. He has not been beaten far in some recent races.
In-form runners 1-PAINITE, 2-MAGICAL MIDLANDS and 3-LIGHT WITHOUT are all capable of winning as well.
Leg 2: Race 6 – Conditions Plate (F&M) 2000m
There are nine runners carded and six need to be included. 7-WOMAN’S WORLD may prove hard to catch as she attempted start-to-finish tactics in the recent East Cape Derby and was only run out of it late by Joy And Peace. She was not stopping at the finish so the drop in distance to 2000m will play into her hands.
Consistent 8-PUBLIC BENEFIT is an obvious danger as there was not too much between them last time and she will also like this shorter trip. Greeff-trained 1-OFFICIAL SECRET and 9-GIDEON’S DAUGHTER are both having a good year and deserve inclusion. Justin Snaith sends out 5-DOUBLE CHECK who has won at Fairview three times and can score again. 4-SAY YES has needed her two local runs and is best weighted.
Leg 3: Race 7 – The Lady's Slipper Stakes (Listed) 1400m
6-SPLICETHEMAINBRACE is the Jackpot banker. This Master Of My Fate filly is unbeaten in four starts and has been full of running at the end of each of her victories so should relish the longer distance. She has beaten rival 4-HAPPY HOLLY narrowly twice, but could beat her further this time around.
Leg 4: Race 8 – MR 66 Handicap 1400m
In the final leg you need a decent spread of runners. 6-MY BEST SHOT is the likely favourite, but the two-year-old may find this field tough to overcome. He was an impressive winner when sent round a turn for the first time, but disappointed when only third on the Polytrack last time out over the same distance.
7-CHARLIE MALONE found all sorts of trouble on the Polytrack last time out over 1200m and could score if given a clear run this time. 1-MY AMI BEACH is effective over this track and trip and demands inclusion. 3-DESTINY’S ANGEL won over this course and distance in February and it will be a surprise if he has only one win in him. 4-SWISS WALT has improved of late and won easily last time out in a race in which the runner-up has since won. 8-WIND SOCK and 9-ARTURO have done enough to warrant inclusion.
