Expect a blast on the Polytrack

Weight versus class looks to be the topic of discussion in Race 8 at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday, a MR 96 Handicap over 1200m on the Polytrack.

This debate is all around Blackwhitedynamite who put up a spectacular performance last time out when fitted with blinkers, romping to a four-length victory over Purple Operator.

The handicappers were also impressed with that effort and Peter Muscutt’s charge received an eight-point penalty for that success. That race was in a MR 75 Handicap and Blackwhitedynamite carried 61kg.

The five-year-old gelding lines up in Race 8, but this time takes a massive jump in class and will be taking on a far stronger field. But while he was given a 4kg penalty for his last victory, because of the quality of the field he will have just 54.5kg on his back.

The average merit rating of this race is 92 while the previous race was a mere 67, a difference of 28 points which translates to 14kg.

So, the question to be answered is, has the fitting of blinkers made enough of a difference to irradicate the difference in class?

There are some very decent performers in this line-up and that will make it tough for Blackwhitedynamite, however, based on the manner of his victory, this son of What A Winter still appeared to have quite a bit in hand so that should make him highly competitive.

Gavin Lerena rode him last time but is unable to make the weight, nevertheless he has a more than capable replacement in Richard Fourie.

The biggest threat should come from Mr Master Starter who has an outstanding record on the Polytrack with three wins and a place from four starts, is unbeaten over course and distance but carries 61kg.
