Excellent chance for Excelero at Warwick

January 2026

Excelero excelled on his last visit to Warwick and looks the pick again in the Betano Backing British Racing Novices' Limited Handicap Chase on Friday.

Trained by Jane Williams, the six-year-old thrived over the quick five fences down the back straight and if he gets into a similar rhythm again he will be very hard to peg back.

He gave graded performers Wade Out and Wendigo something to think about on his chasing debut and then never came off the bridle in his win.

Upped 7lb and sent off favourite at Ascot last time out, he lacked the same enthusiasm which could have been down to a variety of reasons.

Firstly he was in a better race, secondly he was hassled for the lead and also he was going right-handed.

Ciaran Gethings also reported that he ran flat, but a month on he will be fresher and can bounce back.

The world and his dog seems to know Nicky Henderson thinks an awful lot about French recruit Feel Gut, who makes his UK debut in the Hazelton Mountford Insurance Brokers EBF Junior "National Hunt" Hurdle.

Bought for Joe Donnelly, who hardly seems to have a horse who is not top-class, he was second in France behind Macho Man, also bought by the same connections and now with Willie Mullins.

Macho Man chased home a highly-regarded stablemate on his only run since so we have some idea of the form and there will be some very long faces at Seven Barrows if this one gets beaten.

One Big Bang can tee himself up for the spring festivals with victory in the Virgin Bet Daily Extra Places "Chasing Excellence" Novices' Chase.

James Owen's eight-year-old was a decent hurdler, finishing just out of the places in the Pertemps before finishing third in the Punchestown equivalent.

He already looks like being a better chaser, finishing second to Wade Out in a Listed event on his chasing debut before seeing off a useful type in Kamsinas with the minimum of fuss.

The fact that Brian Hughes rides Minstrel Knight in the Virgin Bet A Good Bet Novices' Hurdle looks a bit of a tip.

Hughes has a retainer for owner Jimmy Fyffe, and won on his Minella Jury last time out. Minella Jury also runs in this race but the former champion rides for Ed Bethell instead.

Hughes was on board when he fell on his hurdling debut when seemingly booked for second but he failed to improve on that when only fifth at Southwell.

However, he looked a different proposition last time out when beating Alsakib - ridden by Hughes and rated 108 on the Flat - so he must have liked what he saw.

George Boughey's Lady Dora Mae looks the best bet at Southwell.

Seventh of 20 on her career debut for Fozzy Stack in a Curragh maiden, she changed hands for just 15,000 guineas.

Her first run for new connections saw her beaten just a nose at Lingfield and she steps back up to 1600m which should suit in the Bet £10 Get £40 With BetMGM Fillies' Novice Stakes.

George Scott's Objector was a ready winner on his debut and can defy a penalty in the Bet £10 Get £40 With BetMGM Novice Stakes at Wolverhampton. - Press Association
